US History Based Writing Lessons - Institute for Excellence in Writing

Travel back in time to early United States history! This theme-based writing curriculum allows students to delve into the excitement of explorers, battles, land expansion, famous ships, and founding fathers while learning to write with the Structure and Style® writing method. Offering a full year of instruction for students in grades 6–12, these lessons cover all nine IEW Units. Vocabulary cards, literature suggestions, and access to helpful PDF downloads are also included.Price for both semesters and includes the student book.Marsha is currently working to become a Registered Instructor with IEW.

WeDo 2.0 Intro to Lego Robotics

Welcome to Mission Moon Base!  This class will introduce students ages 8-11 to Robotics using the WeDo 2.0 Lego® Education Program.  Each week there will be a space themed challenge using WeDo 2.0 programming software and Legos® to design a model. Classes will include a team building activity to encourage students to work together.  The course will conclude with a final project of building and programing a rover and creating a Moon Base with Legos®.  Each student will receive a medal for participation in this robotics challenge.

Teen Mentors are Lexi and Hunter Kachelmeier who both have years of experience with Lego® Robotics.

Adult supervisor Julie Kachelmeier has worked with Lego® Robotics in the past.

Full Course

Creative Drama

Description: This class will be full of songs, games, and plenty of activities to encourage students to express themselves appropriately and creatively.  It is a great way to prepare for more formal public speaking.  It is not performance oriented, but assignments include dramatizing memorized poems, shadow puppet theater, and presenting a living timeline.  Students from Spring 2021 are welcome to take the class again.

 9/1-12/15 (No class 9/22, 11/24.)

 If teacher misses more than one class, a make-up class will be offered.

Road Trip: USA

Pack your bags ... and hit the road!  

As we embark on an Epic Road Trip across the United States.  Learn about each of the 50 states and collect souveniors for your scrapbook!

Share regional food and learn about important history, landmarks, people, and places across our great nation.  Each student will bring food to share with the class one time.  We will conclude our trip by watching the movie: Wild America!

Logo's Interactive Theater (It's Lit!)

This is a student-run project to write, produce and perform a play.  We will be writing the script, making costumes and sets ourselves and then producing a fabulous play.  This is a chance to explore your creative side.  There will be a variety of opportunities including writing, directing, acting, costume designing, set building and painting and perhaps even singing and dancing!  There are also roles for marketing and sales.

Teen Kickball

Teens are encouraged to play both Tuesday and Wednesday in order to help the younger kids learn the game.  If you want to also register for Tuesday kickball use promo code "kickit" for $10 off the Tuesday class.

Art Classes for Kids! 

Whether your student is beginning to draw, or is already an accomplished artist, there is always more to learn.

This class will develop and refine artistic skills in drawing, oil and watercolor painting and sculpture.

Individuality and personal expression are guaranteed, with students selecting their subject matter within a focus area.

Jason and Bethe Sailer are professional artists with 27+ years experience.

Supplies are included in the class fee.

Please note that students will need to bring in their own reference photos, teachers will notify parents of this ahead of time.

New to our class? Please list previous art and/or art class experience.
