Archaeology & the Bible is a hand's on/lab approach to understanding this fascinating topic. Students will progress through all phases of an archaeological dig, while digging deeper into many phases of this science, such as site location & survey, tools, timelines, conducting a dig, pottery, tools, ancient writing types, anthropology, radiometric dating, agriculture and daily life, all cast in the realm of the book of Genesis, specifically Gen 18-19, and the catastrophic event that caused the destruction of Biblical Sodom. Learning "through a variety of biblically-based academic disciplines, to uphold the divine authority of the Bible as God’s only inspired representation of reality to humankind, and equipping them to apply its eternal truths to all phases of life." (TSU Mission)

The 10 unit study will end with a trip to the Trinity South West Museum.

This ancient city is currently being excavated by Dr. Steven Collins, and I am collaborating with them in this project. The Tall el-Hammam Excavation Project (TeHEP) is a joint scientific project between Trinity Southwest University's College of Archaeology & Biblical History (Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA), Veritas International University's College of Archaeology & Biblical History (Santa Ana, California, USA) and the Department of Antiquities of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

This course will dive into the series called Uncle Eric’s Model of how the World Works by Richard J. Maybury.  These books have again won first place n the Worldview Curriculum category of Mary Pride’s 2021 Practical Homeschooling Reader Awards.  They provide foundational information on politics, economics, law, and history.  Many home schoolers are familiar with one of the titles, What Ever Happened to Penny Candy?, but have not yet made use of the rest of the series.  We will begin with Uncle Eric Talks About Personal, Career, and Financial Security and choose two or three other titles from the series based on the class interest and experience and teacher guidance.  Reading and some some additional assignments will be homework.  I hope to offer a continuation of this class in the spring.

To get a taste of Richard J. Maybury’s point of view, read his July newsletter: July 2021 EWR

Teacher has two copies of books available (first come, first served) for rent $5 each.

Suggested for High School, Minimum 8th grade.  Parents are welcome to take the class, so consider taking it while your younger children are in another class.

No class Sept 22 or Nov 24
