Poetry & Grammar

$70

with Sandy Cannon

Calendar Next available session starts Sep 14, 2021 at 10:30 am, runs for 11 weeks

*Poetry Memorization (using Linguistic Development Through Poetry Memorization from IEW)*Grammar (Fix It from IEW)

This class is designed to complement the All Things Fun and Fascinating IEW class offered at 9:30.  Fix It is a curriculum that reinforces IEW concepts and integrates grammar instruction.  The basic format is to proofread and correctly rewrite a classic story, 10 sentences per week.  Linguistic Development Through Poetry Memorization is simply memorizing poems.  Why?  Because, as IEW’s beloved Andrew Pudewa explains,  it is “a vital source of powerful and significant linguistic patterning.”  In other words, it is a great way to foster your child’s language development.  Homework will include assignments for poetry memorization, and “Fix It” exercises.

For 3rd-5th grade or if enrolled in All Things Fun and Fascinating

This class is one semester.  If there is enough demand, it will be offered again in the spring.

with Beverly Williams

Calendar Next available session starts Sep 14, 2021 at 11:15 am, runs for 12 weeks

The benefits of games for learning math skills has been well documented. This set of 12 (twelve) classes will be reinforcing addition facts and introducing multiplication by 2s and 3s. Games provide motivation, create meaningful situations for practice, develop positive attitudes, increase learning, allow children to operate independently at different levels, provide opportunities for hands-on and interactive experiences, provide opportunity for assessment.

The Brainiac Baroness, a homeschooling mom who has successfully launched four children into the world, will enrich your homeschooling experience by challenging your children to think critically and build skills through music, games and interaction with other kids that you can't always get at home.

This class is a discussion based class where we enjoy books together.  As the teacher, I will guide students through historical context and beginning literary analysis.  Students will complete reading and discussion preparation at home.  The book list is not finalized yet because the students will be given some choices, but the goal is to read at least three of the books listed below.  To determine if this class is appropriate for your child, see the reading list.  It is geared toward 6-9th grade, depending on the student.

Students are responsible to bring their own copies of the books.

Depending on your student and schooling, this class can be the literature component of your schooling or a supplement to what you do at home.
